Way to go, Martha! Congratulations! This is so very exciting.
Good for you, Marilyn! Isn't that your quilt pictured on the promotion picture (is it a postcard)? How exciting to think that your quilt will be viewed and admired by so many people.
Comment from library colleague Elayne Lockett: "That quilt is absolutely gorgeous! What a gift your mother has. Brag all you can and want, it's the only mama you'll ever have. Never apologize for that. You have God's permission to brag.'And her children rise up and call her blessed.' Prov. 31."
Comment from library colleague Ann Branton: "Yoorah! And I love the visual impact of the quilt, Rise and Shine. It moves!"
Comment from library colleague Paul McCarver: "Linda, what a beautiful quilt and what an honor for your mother."
Thanks to all who commented here and on my email. This quilt has had many adventures--hung in several shows, including Houston and Paducah, and published in several books and articles. But a trip to China . . . what a thrill. I finished it in 1997 and it has taken on a life of its own! I grouped my Y's by color to simulate neighborhoods with the sun coming in to wake up the city. It was hand-quilted with changing designs as I changed neighborhoods.
Martha: Congratulations!! Really a very high honor for you....and you deserve it. I've always loved and appreciate your art.

The quilt is absolutely stunning! I am so proud of and for you!!! Is that an original pattern? I stand amazed! Thank you so much for sharing. Can't wait to see it "in person" one day!!

Well deserved by a tremendously gifted artist - congratulations Martha !!
Congratulations, Martha. That is a stunning quilt and represents American quilt making at its finest!
Martha, that is a beautiful quilt. I love the light edge in the upper corner in particular. It's wonderful that it's traveling in China and representing U.S. quilters.
