What Was I Thinking? 37" x 37" |
This is my completed piece for
Karen Musgrave's challenge with a pink/brown 50s fabric, using techniques from
Rayna Gillman's new book
Create Your Own Free-Form Quilts: A Stress-Free Journey to Original Design. I must admit that the random piecing, slashing, rejoining of units is far from my normal method of working, but I thought the challenge would be fun, so I participated. It's sometimes healthy to get out of one's comfort zone and see what happens.

For a sense of organization, I made two types of strip sets--pink with vertical slashes, and yellow ones. The yellow ones are somewhat joined on the diagonal. The pink/brown challenge fabric was only used as vertical strips, randomly placed about the piece.

I'm impressed! I hope it was fun and I definitely agree that it is good to put stretch marks on our comfort zone. Thanks so much for participating! Hugs, Karen
Hi Martha in Hattiesburg..Love how your Rayna's/ Karen's challenge came out.love the color blends and the diagonal surprises..
I also looked at your other blogs, and love the pencil work on the leaves,, so perfect.. Need to keep that in mind for some work I am doing. I tend to just think fabric, even though I am/was a water colorist.
This challenge of Karen's was great fun and the fabric looks wonderful on your piece, you worked it right in.. Love Rayna's book.
These look great Martha. I have Rayna's book and love it, but have yet to try her method.
Love what you did, Martha. I still haven't gotten my act together with this fabric.
